this is my first year growing tobacco. these are my burley originals, some are 8 feet tall and still growing. i have a total of 45 plants, 10 of the plants are virginia gold.  my virginias only grew 4 to 5 feet tall, is that normal? maybe burley is called burley for a reason. according to webster (spelt this way) burly: strongly and heavily built, husky, muscular, brawny, beefy, hefty. the fence is  to keep out the blunt smoking city kids. barbed wire also helps

strung up on wires. proper spacing reduces the risk of mildew. i've been picking some of the not so green bottom leaves for some time now

Frost is not good. If you get a frost before you harvest, try to be out in the patch before the sun hits them and wash the frost off. A light frost won't kill them but it will damage the leaves if the sun hits it.
