Thanks for the info Don. I'm watching the weather because we're still getting some nights in the upper 30's. I don't think the upper 30's would kill them but where I live it can be 39 a half mile from me and frost in my yard!

I've been picking leaves since day one. I'm not wasting any. I hung them in the shed. Put a fan on them and the humidity in my area is high. They're drying good and slow and changing color. Color curing may be the easiest part for me.
(edited to add)
Ed, you may have to use a humidifier or at least pans of water around the drying area. If you have a closed in place like a shed you can get fairly good humidity control with a humidifier.

Fellers, here ios how we air cure down on the farm.
We drop sticks between 2 rows(stick row) then cut 3 plants from one row and put on the stick with a spear, then we cut 3 more stalks from the row beside it and spear those on and move to the next stick.

Her is a fuzzy pic of the boys hanging it in the barn for curing.

Each rail is 12 to 14 feet long depending on the barn but rails can be put in anything with a roof or even hung outside and covered with plastic. Each 12 foot rail will hold 20 or more sticks times 6 plants per stick makes for 120 plants per rail. Good burley tobacco will weigh anywhere from 30+ to 40 pounds per rail.
This is the tools of a tobacco cutter. Knife(hatchett) and spear/spike. You put the spear on the end of the stick and swing the tobacco onto it. It splits the stalk and allows you to slide it onto the stick. We make these ourselves. The knife blade is made of an old handsaw blade, and the handle is from a split oak stick that has been planed down smooth. The spear is made from a pitch fork prong and a harrow disk.Old buggy spokes make the bvest handles but are in short supply around here now days.

Most think it takes lots of room to hang stick but it doesn;t
With them small like that you could put 8 plants to a stick . And could hang 4 sticks in an area just 2 ft wide x 4 ft long . It would have to be as deep as your baccy is tall though .
No big deal just wanted you to know you can hang those in a small place .

Thanks Lonnie, I'll have to think about it, right now, I'm having powdery mildew problems with the leaf I hung but I think I can fix that. Appreciate the info.
