hi
ive heard about the sprays to add flavor
but when you grow fresh leaves,do you get any of the scent like when you open a new bag of tabacco
i have some nice leaves that are brown now for a month
but to me it just smells like tree leaves
or no scent at all

grower,
If you have not cured the leaves in a kiln.....they are not cured enough to have that nice tobacco smell. According to wydeboi, and his posts, it takes about 3 months of natural aging to get the same effect.
I know in my kiln it took 2- 3 weeks to get any tobacco smell...more like compost during the initial curing. After that the aroma of 'tobacco' started to come out. By the end of the month a nice rich tobacco odor filled the air. I have since had my plugs sitting in partially open zip lock bags adorning the tops of my kitchen cabinets to continue the aging process at normal room temps and RH. I just now checked them, and my what a wonderful smell!
Summary: Natural cure...3 months in 70*F normal RH= 1 month Kiln ...120-130*F 70-80% RH....plus however long you want to let them naturally age to further mellow the tobacco. Mine have been in the kiln for 1 month, and have been inside for another month. They are very smokable.
Hang in there they will smell like tobacco eventually.

I have some that have been color curing for about 8 weeks and they are developing that tobacco smell. I also have some that have color cured for the same length of time and do not have that smell. Since I have 3 varieties I'm assuming that different strains will develop the smell at different rates. Just my observation from my own tobacco.
